Around Halloween, we become accustomed to opening our doors for strangers, passing out candies, and trying to be the scariest house in the neighborhood. This is all fun and games when it comes to spooky season festivities, but it’s not so enjoyable when it transfers over into the buggy side of things.
Open Doors
While we open our doors to strangers, we don’t want insects getting the wrong idea that they are welcomed inside. During this season, temperatures are known to drop, and pests tend to try to make their way indoors. Once they are inside, it can be bad news for you, as infestations can occur quickly. It is much easier to prevent an infestation than it is to get rid of one once it is there.
During the trick or treating time, it may be wise to invest in some extra pest management solutions, as well as keeping your doors and windows closed as much as possible, or installing well-fitting or sealed screens if you plan on keeping them open for extended periods of time. In addition, keep your excess holiday decorations clean and uninviting to potential pests, and remove any additional trash promptly.
Accessible Treats
Another common attraction for insects during this season is the easy accessibility to a variety of treats and goodies. Candy abounds, and holiday baking starts to pick up, all the while attracting all-too-pesky and not-so-sweet pests. While these treats may be sweet for us to eat, they are also appealing to bugs and other critters that we don’t want crawling around. Make sure to not leave candies, cookies, and cakes uncovered, and preferably keep them in sealed containers to prevent potential pest problems.
Scary Houses
During the Halloween season, we often decorate our houses up to be spooky, scary, ghoulish, and gross. It’s all in the spirit of fun, until pests decide to join in. Once an infestation begins, your home isn’t just scary because of the decorations, but because of the bugs who have taken up residence. These horrors for your house can haunt you way beyond the holiday season. It’s best to prevent pesky pests before they become a problem.
